  1. Benefit Concert Kicks Off Power Line Education Fund’s Campaign Against the Power Line

The Bands, Ferguson Brown and Black Jack, rocked the house for a benefit concert at the Out Back Pub in West Stewartstown on December 18th to raise awareness of the Hydro-Quebec High Voltage power line proposed by Northeast Utilities and NStar for New Hampshire and to raise money for the Power Line Education Fund.

The event was the concept of and orchestrated by the Band members for the Fund and Ferguson Brown’s Base Guitarist, Tony Frank who arranged the event with Out Back Pub owner, Francis Grondin. Both Ferguson Brown and Black Jack have a history of raising awareness for worthy community based efforts such as last year’s fund raiser for the Two Rivers Foundation and would like to have another benefit concert in opposition to the line in the near future.

Bob Baker, local resident and activist in the Concerned Citizens Group and Power Line Education Fund welcomed the Bands and guests and spoke about the challenges that lay ahead. Baker stated, “We need to understand that this is going to be a very, very long battle and we are going to need substantial resources to fight this fight… Thank you for coming this evening and for your support.”

Baker’s welcome was followed by a passionate speech given by Ferguson Brown’s lead guitarist, Dave Jackson, urging North Country residents to come together and fight against this project that will bring a 1200 HVDC transmission line, along with massive towers, down through some of the most beautiful areas of Northern New Hampshire. Dave said: “ Get Involved! Don’t wait till it’s too late!

The 8:00 opening act was by George Jacques performing a protest song he wrote about the proposed power line, titled: “For a Few Dollars More.” Jacques sang “ . . . there’s a viable solution – put the cable in the ground, Then there’ll be no eye pollution – just smiling faces all around”.

Following Jacques performance, Ferguson Brown, shook the house with classic rock tunes from the 60s and 70s. After a break, members of the Band, Black Jack, turned up the volume with their performance and attendees danced till closing.

Proceeds generated at the concert are to benefit the Power Line Education Fund. The Education Fund has been established to collect donations to educate the public about this massive project, which will send electricity into the power grid mainly serving residents of Massachusetts and Connecticut with little if any benefit for New Hampshire.

The Power Line Education Fund, established by North Country residents has applied for an IRS designation. A similar Power Line Education Fund was set up in 1982 when there was a similar proposal to bring huge HVDC transmission lines down the Connecticut River Valley in New Hampshire.

Individuals interested in donating to the Fund may do so via PayPal’s secure site, simply click on the DONATE link at the Live Free Or Fry web site or send a check or money order to the Power Line Education Fund, P.O. Many groups and organizations have sprung up opposing the project throughout New Hampshire. In the North Country, The Poore Family Foundation for North Country Conservancy, the Concerned Citizens Against the Northern Utilities/NStar High-Voltage DC Power Line in NH and the Power Line Education Fund are leading this initiative and welcomes your support, questions and members.
